Editorial Note
Text based on :
Yokyoku Hyoshaku, chosha Owada Tateki. Tokyo:
Hakubunkan, Meiji 40 [1907].
Some
kanji in this ninety-year-old text differ from forms in use today.
Where there are modern equivalents for the older
kanji in modern
character sets (JIS or Shift JIS), these characters have been
substituted for the older characters. If modern characters are not
available, then
hiragana have been used as substitutes.
In the original texts, three repetition symbols are used (
hitotsuten,
kunojiten,
and
donojiten). Among those, only
donojiten, which is used for repeating the
same
kanji, is still in use today, and is used in this text. The repetition
symbols for
hiragana (
seion,
dakuon, and
handakuon)
are replaced by the
hiragana. The repetition symbol
for repeating a phrase is replaced by repeating the same phrase.
For
kanji, readings of the character(s), i.e.,
furigana, are
provided in the forms of notes outside the context of texts. The
furigana given in the original texts sometimes offer pre-modern readings.
Whenever the current meaning of pre-modern
furigana was unclear, reference
was made to:
Yokyoku Shu, edited by Yokomichi Mario and Omote Akira
(Tokyo: Iwanami Shoten, 1967;
Nihon Koten Bungaku Taikei, 40-41).
In regard to SGML tagging for the speakers of the plays, only
"speaker" was used for tagging; no difference was made among cast members.
This differentiation is important, but has to be developed in future.
Whenever there is "Nakairi," tagging was made with "div1
type="part" n=1" and "div1 type="part" n=2." Other elements such
as "Jo no Mai" are not tagged . This tagging also has to be enhanced in the
future.
